Burt Bacharach show
October 6th, 2003

Hi everybody,
I just realized I never told you about the show in San Jose. We had a great time seeing our friends and meeting all of the musicians. Burt Bacharach had so much energy and really seemed to love working with the skaters. He even went to a party at Linda Leaver's(Brian Boitano's coach) house with all of us after the show. His back-up singers were also amazing. One of them lives in Aliso Viejo where we train and another one is the brother of a skater we know. Small world. I really wish I could sing. How cool would that be? Is it just me or does everyone secretly want to be a rock star? or maybe an opera singer? Todd and I did a lot of skating in the show. We did a number with Brian Orser to a movie medley. Brian is so much fun to skate with and always keeps us laughing. I also did a number with Yuka, Karen and Brian Boitano. He is so amazing to watch. Being on the ice while he performed I could really see the focus in his eyes. His number was beautiful and he did a huge triple lutz. Our first number was called "Wives and Lovers" it was a slight character piece that we had choreographed during the summer by Cindy Stuart. At one point we stopped near the stage and I did a little part to Burt. That was fun and it seemed like he got into it too. I touched one hand down on my throw so later we did a retake. The retake was not my best moment. I have to say with the new skates and the long rehearsal days my body felt like it wasn't my own. With help from Todd and the audience I got through it. We skated our second number to a piece by Michael McDonald. He has a beautiful voice. This number we choreographed ourselves. It was a great audience and I think the show was really good. It's always amazing how LeaAnn puts these shows together in such a short amount of time. We are really lucky to have these events to perform in. Thank you Steve Disson. He's the producer of these t.v. specials that we all do. The next one will be Kurt's show and I know many of you will be there to cheer all of us on. smile That should be a great show! I've heard some of the ideas and can't wait. Also, we get to meet Gabriel! Bye for now. Jenni

p.s. Have I mentioned how happy I am that Yuka is doing Stars with us this year. YEA!

A.J.'s skating adventure
October 1st, 2003

Hi,
We had a great time in Cleveland visiting with family and friends.

A.J. loved skating. He didn't actually skate on his own but he wore skates and wanted to go "faster." He's probably the only 2 year old thats gotten to skate on a freestyle with 2 Olympic gold medalists(Carol Heiss & Hayes Jenkins), and at least 5 National competitors(Parker Penington ,Lindsey Weber, Sara Wheat to name a few)He wanted to skate as fast as them and would giggle with delight when we did. He is such a good boy. He sat in the hockey box (eating his snacks with his skates on) for about 45 minutes while we practiced. Between elements we would take him for a spin and he loved it. He also loved when "uncle " Todd threw "aunt" Jenni and talked about it all day. After skating we got to go to McDonalds(his favorite) for lunch and some time on the slide. He's the best and boy does he know how to wrap us around his little finger. How can we resist!

We had a night out with both of our nephews on Saturday. We took them to Dave and Busters. It was a challenge keeping a hold of a 2 year old at a place with so much going on. We had a lot of fun though and Stephen won tons of tickets. It's amazing how much A.J. adores his big brother and vice versa. Stephen let A.J. pick out a prize with the tickets he won. My brother and his wife are such great parents there kids are truly amazing.

It was really a great trip and along with great family time we were able to get some good skating time in. We always go back to the rink where I grew up. Its fun to see my old coach Carol Heiss Jenkins and some good friends who are now coaching at Winterhurst. For those of you who don't know I skated singles until I was 19 and took from Carol. My first year in pairs was 1991. She was very supportive and played a big role in my transition to pair skating. She is the reason I ended up in California with John Nicks as my coach. She thought he was the best and she was right. He taught me everything I know about pair skating and a lot about life too. I hope to be able to pass along what I've learned from them and also from my own experiences to other young skaters. We've been teaching a little bit this summer and have really enjoyed it. Performing is definately our first love but who knows what the future holds. Gotta run! Jenni smile

Hi from Cleveland
September 27th, 2003

Hi everybody,
We are in Cleveland this week visiting my family. We're having a great time so far. On Thursday I was inducted into the Cleveland Hall of Fame. Having the people I love and care about most there to share the night with me made it even better. My three brothers, my sister-in-law, my parents and some family friends were all there with us. I didn't realize what a big event it would be and being inducted was really an honor. On Friday we spent the day doing a photo shoot for "Midwest Living" magazine. They took pictures on the ice and at home with my family. All of my brothers(younger)were interviewed so who knows what kind of stories they told from growing up..I'll keep you posted about what issue it will be in. Tonight Todd and I are on babysitting duty for my two nephews. Steven is 12 and A.J. is 2. We can't wait. As a proud aunt I have to say that we have the best nephews in the world! On Tuesday we're going to take A.J. skating for the first time. That should be a lot of fun. Anyway, enough of my babbling. Have a great weekend and I'll be back again soon!
Take care, Jenni

Just a note to say hi!
September 18th, 2003

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to drop a line to say hi! We are in San Jose for the 'Burt Bacharach' show this weekend. I just got back from rehearsals and wanted to say hello. This is our first event of the season and it should be a fun one. After this we are going to be traveling to Cleveland, Ohio for a special event. Jenni is being inducted into the 'Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame'. She is going to kill me for spilling the beans, but I am very proud of her. I/we will touch base after the show Saturday......the internet connection in the hotel is so slow.....and let you know what has been going on and of course, how the show went! All the best and thanks for visiting!,
Todd
